Deck Builder

The Deck Builder screen is where you build decks for Limited-format games. This screen will open whenever you start a Sealed Deck event or finish drafting your cards in a Rochester Draft or Booster Draft. The Deck Builder screen lets you move cards between your deck and sideboard, and also lets you add basic lands to your deck (in a draft game) or exchange basic lands (in a Sealed Deck event).

You have a limited amount of time to build your deck in most Sealed Deck and draft events. If you haven't submitted a deck before the time runs out, the Magic Online game will finish building your deck and submit it. You won't be happy with the results. See Submit for more information.

The Deck Builder screen has five sections:

Sideboard
The Sideboard window shows all cards not included in the main deck. It also lets you add and remove cards and shows how many cards are currently in the sideboard. In Limited-format games, any cards you don't put into your main deck are part of your sideboard.

Using the card search filter changes the cards shown here. See Deck Editor and Deck Builder Card Search Filters for more information on displaying cards in the Sideboard and Deck windows.

Deck
The Deck window is where you build your main deck. It shows all cards in the current deck, lets you add and remove cards, and shows how many cards are currently in the deck. Limited-format decks have to be at least forty cards, but you can have more cards than that if you want.

Using the card search filter changes the cards shown here. See Deck Editor and Deck Builder Card Search Filters for more information on displaying cards in the Sideboard and Deck windows.

Chat
The Chat window is where you can talk with other players in the same event while you build your deck. The right side of the Chat window shows the list of players who you can see what you type.

Card Display Area
The card display area shows you larger images of cards in the Sideboard and Deck windows.

Card Search Filter
The card search filter helps you find specific cards in the Sideboard and Deck windows. See the Deck Editing and Deck Builder Card Search Filters section for information.

Buttons
The row of buttons along the bottom of the screen let you save or load a version of your deck, and also to submit your deck for play. There are also buttons that let you concede or adjourn a game and get statistics to help you analyze your deck list.

Display Options
The two buttons in the upper right corner of the Sideboard and Deck windows change how things are displayed on the Deck Builder screen. The left button (  or ) switches each window between table view (text) and card view (graphics). The right button in each window () minimizes that window. You can also minimize the chat area.

Table View
The table layout shows each card on a separate line with different information in each column.

You can click a column heading to sort the cards in ascending or descending order by the information in that column. For instance, if you click the name column, you can sort the cards in that window alphabetically by card name.

Dragging the line on the left of a column changes the width of that column. The scroll bars are used to see information that doesn't fit on the screen.

You can drag a card to move one copy from one window to another. You can also right click a card to move one or more copies to another window.

To see what a card looks like, click anywhere in that card's row. The card will appear in the card display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Card View
The card view lets you see your cards as they look in a game. You can use the scroll bars to see cards that don't fit in the window.

You can also change how cards are shown in the card view from the Display Settings window. To open the Display Settings window, right-click the background of a window and select Display Settings.

To sort cards in the Sideboard or Deck windows, you can right-click the background and select a sorting option. You can also right-click a pile and select Sort pile to order the cards in a pile by card type and converted mana cost.

To move one copy of a card, you can drag the card to the window or pile you want it in. You can also move a card by right-clicking the card and selecting the window you want to move it to. To move several cards at once, either drag a box around the cards you want or hold down the SHIFT key and click cards to select them. Then drag the selected cards to another window or pile.

To see a larger version of a card, point at the card. The card will appear in the card display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Minimize
The Sideboard, Deck, and Chat windows can each be minimized by clicking on the minimize button in the upper right corner of each window. When a window is minimized, its name will appear on a blue bar at the bottom of your screen. You can click a blue bar to restore the minimized window to its full size.

Exchanging Basic Land (Sealed Deck only)
In Sealed Deck games, you're only allowed to use the basic lands that were in your tournament pack and boosters. However, you're allowed to exchange the basic lands you have for basic lands of different types on a one-for-one basis. For example, if you're building a deck with mostly green cards in it and you need three more forests, you could exchange two islands and a swamp for three forests.

To exchange land on the Deck Builder screen, you need to have either the Sideboard or Deck window (whichever has the land in it that you want to exchange) in card view. Right-click the basic land you want to exchange and select Exchange basic land. When the Land Selection window appears, click the basic land type you want to exchange for.

Buttons
Save
Click this button to save the current deck to your computer or a disk. If you've saved the current deck before, the Magic Online game automatically saves it to the same file. If you're saving a new deck, the Save Deck As window will pop up. Choose where you want to save the deck and enter a deck name. Then click Save.

Save As
Click this button to save the current deck with a different file name or to a different location. The Save Deck As window will pop up and you can choose where you want to save the deck and enter a deck name. Then click Save.

Concede
Click this button if you want to concede the match to your opponent. A window will pop-up asking if you're sure you want to concede. If you click the OK button, your opponent gets a match win.

Adjourn
Click this button if you'd like to continue this game at another time. See Adjourn for more information.

Statistics
This button opens the Statistics window. You can use the Statistics window to analyze your deck. See the Statistics section for more information.

Submit
When you've finished building your deck, click the Submit button. If the time allowed for deck construction runs out before you submit a deck, Magic Online will finish building the deck and submit it for you. You won't be happy with your deck if this happens.

If you're the last person to submit a deck, play begins when you click Submit. If you're waiting for another player to submit a deck, you can continue to make changes to your deck. If you do change the cards in your deck, you have to click Submit again. Your deck for the game will contain whatever cards were in your deck the last time you clicked the Submit button.

Add Lands(Draft games only)
If you're playing in a draft game, you probably didn't pick many land cards to put in your deck. Click the Add Lands button to add basic lands to your deck. When you click the button, the Land Selection window appears. Click on a basic land to add one basic land of that type to your deck. You can add as many basic lands to your deck as you want. Click the Done button to close the Land Selection window.

Booster(League games only)
Each week in a league, you can purchase an additional booster to add to your league deck by clicking on this button in the league deck building screen.  This button will only appear when a new booster can be added to your league deck.
